This program, made in the 1970’s portraying life in the Depression, is dripping with buttery wholesomeness. TV shows today, even dramas, tend to be shallow and crass. The Waltons is the very best of humanity, it was easy to portray the best of people because the economy itself was the enemy, and most of the shittyness of the folks in the show can be attributed to that. It would not be fair to compare today’s world to that of The Depression, but you could compare/contrast universal values against Walton Mountain and say, GOTHAM. 

 It was clear that country boys can survive, just as it is clear that cities breed mobs. 

 

 In The Waltons universe John Boy was the hero. In the Batman universe JOKER, was, at some point, a hero. Why did people embrace some mentally ill murderer? Why is this movie IRL so controversial? I think it is because instead of glossing over the arch of HOW HE GOT THAT WAY, the movie dives in for two hours of darkness and inner turmoil. GOD FORBID YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH some Empathy! You may not have Gigglelepsy, but you may agree that rich assholes are not needed and the world is swirling the bowl. You may also agree that certain narratives are designed to provoke certain people: 

 

Well, I have been binging on The Waltons - as an adult, as a kid it was too preachy and meant the news was coming up next - and the narrative is don’t judge people different than you, try to help them and understand them. If Arthur / Joker had wandered through Virginia and met JB, JOKER never would have manifested cuz JB woulda been like, “Hey, my mama made some stew, you can take my bed, and we would love to see your act...” 

And if he had gotten giggley JB would just assume he’d gotten into some RECIPE (whiskey). People who are constantly harassed (ahem) can either go JOKER like They/The Narrative wants (see mass shootings, meds, gun laws) or they can go Jesus. Of all the great performances throughout the years I think WahKeen Fenix did the best Joker to date but I can think of one other psycho that was equally brutal:

JOKER was also provoked, as am I as TI guy... Want $$$ ??? Guess ur a sinner !!! Fuck. I AM a sinner. I Do want money, and milkshakes and pussy and drugs and ... Oil guy served humanity inadvertently, as a product of his greed. Joker also served - as a release valve, a pariah, a placeholder for all the shittyness you’re too much of a noodle to face and deal with. 

One thing you can say about me (as Antichrist) or Joker or Oil guy is ... WE ARE HONEST. Perhaps above all else this quality is the most redeeming. Like, at least SATANISTS are NOT hypocrites. I am hate-filled, greedy, ego maniacal, perverted, addicted... I invite your hate, scoffing, scorn, derision. The world needs honesty. To clear the air, to cleanse the karma, to get that off your chest.
